Youth Driven or Directed
Amy's Place for Youth is a program devoted to helping homeless, runaway and at risk Youth in Whatcom County, who are frequently forgotten members of our community. On Friday and Saturday evenings, beginning at 5:30 pm, Amy's Place opens its doors and provides a warm, inviting break for needy Youth. At the center, Youth can look forward to a kind word of encouragement, referrals to services, and hanging out with friendly mentors. Youth enjoy a hot meal prepared and served by community volunteers, and obtain much needed bus tokens and shower vouchers, as well as clothing and other essential supplies. At Amy's Place, Youth have a sense of belonging and feel valued. We help Youth from ages 24, and younger. Our Center is located at 1704 N. State St. (upstairs), Bellingham. Phone: 360-671-5567. A map of our location is below.
Believing in the dignity of each person and the value of every life, Old Town Christian Ministries strives to serve those who are hardest to serve: the chronically homeless, the mentally ill, vulnerable youth, and those who suffer from substance abuse. Click here to view our Rules
In December 2006, we started a youth drop in center called Amy’s Place. Our organization --- Old Town Christian Ministries --- is a 501c3 non-profit organization located in the northwest corner of Washington state near Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Starting with 6 youth, our growth has been tremendous. Every day, we struggle to meet not only the basic needs of these children and young adults, but also address the underlying problems each individual faces. By creating a non-threatening youth-friendly environment where basic needs are met, Amy’s Place attendees naturally become more likely to want to make positive changes in their lives. With love, support and mentoring, each young person can become more successful as they connect to community resources such as stable housing, employment, education and healthcare opportunities.
If you talk to the kids they will tell you how much having a place to go and a meal means to them: A place where they can simply be young people without shouldering the burden of survival for a few hours. Help us help the homeless youth in our community. Contact Amy's Place today to make your donation. Every penny and every item donated counts and is greatly appreciated.
